Life Summary

Alexander Lawrie was born in Ayrshire, Scotland around 1776. He married Jean Dunlop on 7 July 1809 at Riccarton, Ayrshire. Their son John Lawrie (1810–1888) was born at Galston the following year.

Alexander's own parents are believed to be Alexander Lawrie Sr. (of Riccarton) and Janet Patterson, though this is unconfirmed.

He died in Scotland in 1847, predeceasing his son's emigration to South Australia.

Research Notes

  • Parents brick wall: Alexander's parents are not confirmed in any vault source. The webtrees tree (Trevor Lawrie) does not extend beyond Alexander (I0001). A search snippet suggests his father was also named Alexander Lawrie and his mother was Janet Patterson, but no primary source has been located.
  • Scotland-only: Alexander appears to have remained in Scotland his entire life. He died before his son John emigrated to SA in 1853.
  • Name spelling: Lawrie (not Laurie or Lowrie) — consistent across webtrees and FindAGrave.
