Life Summary
George Sidney Gilbert "Sid" Stribling married Amy Farrow Stribling (nee Farrow), daughter of Charles Farrow and Elizabeth Hannah (Telfer) Farrow. The couple had three children: Annabel Doris (1894), Sydney Glenroy (1899) and Frank Hope (1901).
Sydney Glenroy Stribling — birth date VERIFIED (30 Sep 2026). The South Australian birth register (read on the member results table under the family's Ordinary membership #24964, Genealogy SA) gives STRIBLING, Sydney Glenroy — Date of Birth 05-Feb-1899; Male; Father George Sydney Gilbert STRIBLING; Mother Amy FARROW; Birth Residence Nr Tarlee; District Gilbert; Book 635 / Page 139. This is an independent source from the AIF Project/ADFA service record (which gave 5 Feb 1899 from the man's own attestation) — a civil act completed by the parents, not a self-report. Two independent sources agree → verified, and the vault's previous year-only "1899" is now an exact date.
Sydney Glenroy Stribling — war service and death (recorded 1 Oct 2026). AIF service record No. 7298, 10th Infantry Battalion; enlisted 31 January 1917 at Adelaide, occupation bank clerk, educated at Adelaide High School, home address Forestville (next of kin Mrs A. Stribling, his mother). He survived the war — not the Arthur Clifford Stribling (1890–1918) of the same family who was killed at Villers-Bretonneux. Sydney died at Adelaide on 25 May 1969, aged 70, and is buried at Centennial Park Cemetery. Sources: Virtual War Memorial Australia (vwma.org.au/explore/people/162259); IWM Lives of the First World War lifestory 7597485 (names his mother as Amy Stribling); AIF Project pid 290851; AIF records transcription. The attestation gives birthplace "Stockport", while the SA birth register gives residence "Nr Tarlee" — adjacent Gilbert-district towns about 3 km apart, both correct, not a conflict.
George died on 3 June 1901, aged 37, at his residence near Stockport, South Australia, after a short illness (pneumonia). The personal column of 14 June 1901 recorded that he was "well-known in the Wooroora District, though only a young man", and that the large congregation of about 400 at the Stockport Baptist Church attended a funeral sermon by the Rev. Jas. Barker. He was buried at Stockport Cemetery, Plot I 70, alongside (later) his widow Amy.
