Life Summary
William Humphrey Parker was born on 17 July 1850 at Ragged Hill Farm, Mossblown, Ayrshire, Scotland — just two years before his father David Parker packed up the family and emigrated to South Australia.
He arrived in Adelaide as a toddler on 4 May 1852 aboard the barque Martin Luther from Liverpool, travelling with his father David, mother Isabella, and sister Elizabeth.
The family settled first at Port Gawler and later at Virginia and Peachy Belt — pioneering farming districts north of Adelaide. By adulthood, William Humphrey had established himself as a farmer at Long Plains, where he raised his own large family of ten children with Hannah Baker.
Hannah Baker was South Australian-born, the daughter of William John Baker (from Bickleigh, Devon, England) and Sophia March (from Aylsham, Norfolk, England).
