Joyce Elizabeth Telfer
Biography
Role: Fifth child of Mark Telfer and Julia Seebohm
She lived to 100 years of age, passing away in 2012.
Note on the Downs family link. Joyce married Clarence Walter Downs, whose brother Alan Theodore Downs (1905–1959) was the first husband of Gwendoline Victoria (Campbell) Telfer (1910–1966). That gives a second, independent Telfer↔Downs connection in the same Millicent district as the Campbell/Telfer line — worth noting, with Joyce's own Telfer parentage here established (daughter of Mark Telfer and Julia Seebohm).
Family Stories
Joyce was the fifth child of Mark and Tillie Telfer. She attended Mount Gambier Technical School and gained an Advanced Grade III Certificate in Dressmaking in 1935. On 3 July 1937 she married Clarence Walter Downs at the Methodist Church, Mount Gambier. They spent their honeymoon at Tanunda and settled at Mount Gambier, where she was a member of the CWA and a Life Member of the Tantanoola PA&H Society. She reached the remarkable age of 100, passing away in 2012. (From the Borders to the Bush, pp.244–245)
