Robert Mewett Campbell was born at Millicent, South Australia on 20 December 1878, the son of John Campbell and Emely Mewett (SA Birth Book 212/Page 364). He married Nita Leah Mutton at Millicent on 31 December 1907, District Grey (SA Marriage Book 233/Page 1656); the register records his father as John Campbell and hers as George Mutton. He died at Millicent on 29 September 1971, aged 92, and is buried in Millicent Cemetery.

Both of Robert's parents died at Mount Gambier, and both were the subject of printed obituaries in the Mount Gambier press.
John Campbell — born 1853 at Harris, Scotland; died 27 January 1892 at Mount Gambier, aged 39. Robert was thirteen.
Emily (Emely) Mewett — born 8 April 1853 at Gumeracha; died 13 September 1925 at Mount Gambier, aged 72. The Border Watch (15 September 1925) and the Register (18 September 1925) both carried notices, and both printed her name as Emily — while the birth register of her son, and the SA index entry for it, print Emely. This is the same register-versus-newspaper spelling pattern already recorded in this vault for Nita/Neta (below), and neither spelling is a correction of the other; both are recorded as printed.
