William Webster was born on 24 October 1778 in Tuttington, Norfolk, a small village about 3 miles northwest of Aylsham. He was the son of John Webster and Sarah Ann Dobbs — one of at least 16 children (7 sons, 9 daughters).

He married Susanna Hewett on 13 March 1803 in Tuttington, Norfolk. They had seven children between 1803 and 1816, all born in Norfolk.

William died young at just 37 years old on 20 October 1816 in Aylsham, Norfolk. He was buried there on 29 October 1816. His wife Susanna outlived him by 34 years, dying in Aylsham on 18 November 1850.
