She married James Telfer, eldest son of John Telfer (1840–1913) and Martha Allen, on 24 October 1917 at St Martins Church, Mount Gambier. James, then 49, was a newspaper agent and later shopkeeper; Alma was 37. Together they established a general store at Glencoe West which housed the local Post Office. Their only child, Vida, was born on 8 March 1919.

Alma died on 24 April 1965 at Adelaide, South Australia, and was buried in the Lake Terrace Cemetery, Mount Gambier, beside her husband James (d. 1946).

Family Stories

Alma Ida Sporer married James Telfer at Mount Gambier in 1917, and together they ran the general store at Glencoe West — a store that also served as the local Post Office and sold groceries, hardware, drapery and other goods needed by the farming community. James was an Elder at the local Presbyterian Church. They had one daughter, Vida. James died in 1946; Alma died in 1965.
