Mary Ellen's daughter from her first marriage — Dinah Flavel (1821–1844) — married Francis Telfer (1809–1895) in 1841, connecting the Flavel and Telfer families.Elizabeth Float Smith (1825–1914) — married 1870. Elizabeth was previously married to John Philip Smith (died 1864 at Armagh, SA). She died 5 May 1914 (aged 88–89) and was buried at Cheltenham Pioneer Cemetery, Victoria.
