Emma Turner was born in South Australia in 1888. She married George Herbert Hucks, a railway worker of the upper-North SA rail towns, on 21 August 1905 at Oodla Wirra. She died on 18 September 1910, aged just 22, and was buried in the Hucks family plot at Oodla Wirra Cemetery. Her two children by George — Charlotte Emma Rubie Irene (Beven) and Gwinfred Gorden Herbert John — were the half-siblings of George's later children with his second wife, Agnes Letitia May Rose Paynter (1895–1952), whom George married in 1914.
