A railway worker, he lived in the upper-North SA rail towns of Quorn, Cockburn and Oodla Wirra (per From the Borders to the Bush, ch.5, as husband of Agnes Paynter). He married Agnes Letitia May Rose Paynter on 6 July 1914 at her parents' house in Quorn. He died on 28 September 1947 at Terowie and was buried at Oodla Wirra.
