Biography

Role: Husband of Mary Jane Paynter — Watson branch of the Telfer tree
Born: 8 June 1851 — Hobart, Tasmania
Died: 10 September 1929 — Brunswick, Victoria
Spouse: Mary Jane Paynter (1861–1945) (m. 1 March 1882, Arkaba, South Australia)

John Watson was born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1851. He married Mary Jane Paynter, daughter of Jean Telfer (1840–1892) and Richard Paynter, on 1 March 1882 at Arkaba, South Australia — the marriage place recorded as "Home of Mr Mapleton".

He and Mary Jane had at least two sons recorded in the Telfer family books: Joseph Watson (1883–1948) and Lancelot Hobart Watson (1888–1960). He died at Brunswick, Victoria on 10 September 1929.

⚠️ Death-detail caveat: The 1929 Brunswick detail rests on the Telfer family books. As with the broader Watson branch, a primary death registration (Victorian BDM) has not yet been cross-checked — treat the death year/location as high-confidence until a registration is located.
