Biography
Note — two sons named Hugh Parker
David Parker did have two sons named Hugh Parker, both with his first wife Isabella Kelly. A prior data-hygiene correction (see below) removed the two bare `Hugh Parker` refs on the grounds that "no dedicated records exist"; that conclusion was reversed on 26 Aug 2026 when evidence was found. The two sons are:
Both were named after David's own father, Hugh Parker. The name was reused after infant #1 died in 1861, a common practice of the era. These are sons, not the grandson Hugh Kelly Parker (1896–1959).
What happened (original 26 Aug 2026 correction, now superseded): the bare frontmatter refs `Elizabeth Parker`, `Frederick Robert Parker`, `Hugh Kelly Parker`, and two `Hugh Parker` were removed. `Hugh Kelly Parker` (1896–1959) is a grandson (via David Parker 1856–1906), not a son; `Elizabeth Parker` (1879–1957) is a granddaughter (daughter of William Humphrey Parker & Hannah Baker); `Frederick Robert Parker` resolved to a different family (~1838–1928, son of George Parker, husband of Jean Telfer). The two bare `Hugh Parker` refs were dropped as "no dedicated records exist" — but research (26 Aug 2026) proved records do exist and both were genuine sons; they are re-added above.

Note on Elizabeth (20 Oct 2026; profile written 21 Oct 2026). This family had a daughter Elizabeth Parker (c.1847–1886) — she appears on the memorial set as `Elizabeth Parker, unknown–1886`, and the SA death register gives `PARKER, Elizabeth`, died 10-Aug-1886, aged 39, father David PARKER (district Clare 157/172). She is not the same person as Elizabeth Robinson Parker (1855–1906), who was Henry Kelly Parker's wife and therefore David's daughter-in-law — a research report of 20 Oct 2026 proposed her as a twelfth child and that is wrong. Elizabeth (c.1847–1886) now has her own profile: Elizabeth Parker (1847–1886) — her FindAGrave memorial (209840297) lists both David and Isabella as parents with no half-sibling flag, so she is a full daughter of this marriage and the ninth child by Isabella. The "half sibling" entry on the sibling memorials is Frederick Robert Parker (1880–1950), a son of the Clementina Minto marriage — the half-family question is closed.
Life Summary
David Parker was born on 29 June 1822 at Ragged Hill Farm, Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland. He was christened on 13 July 1822 at Tarbolton, with parents listed as Hugh Parker and Christian Fulton.
He married Isabella Kelly on 9 August 1846 in Barony, Lanarkshire, Scotland. In the 1851 Scotland Census, he was recorded as a Victualler living at Wallace Street, Wallacetown, St Quivox, Ayrshire, with wife Isabella and infant son William H (age 1).
The family emigrated to South Australia in 1852 aboard the ship Martin Luther (arriving 4 May 1852 in Adelaide), travelling with wife Isabella and three children.
After Isabella's death on 6 July 1867, he married Clementina Minto on 20 June 1871 at Hailes House, Hackney, Adelaide.
With Isabella he also had two sons named Hugh Parker: the first (born Nov 1859) died in infancy in December 1861, and the name was given to a second son born in 1864, who survived to age 27 but died in 1891 — both named in honour of David's own father, Hugh Parker. He died on 4 April 1888 at his residence "Wheatlands", Hundred of Pirie, South Australia, aged 65, and was buried at Port Pirie Cemetery.
