Family Stories

🖊️ Anecdote — as told in From the Borders to the Bush (book pp. 272): Ray — you'll smile at this one. He was the one with the old buggy and the good heart, and when there was a dance anywhere within reachable distance, he was the chauffeur. He'd pile his sisters aboard and drive them off, and then the trouble began — getting them home. One sister would have her eye on the next dance, then another, and before Ray could round the whole lively lot of them up it was light, and milking time. More than one morning came up as Ray steered that buggy back to Edgerston with the girls still humming the last waltz. He ended his days farming out at Scotts Creek, and he died in 1960 — but the family never forgot who got the girls home on dance mornings.
