He married Hannah Baker on 21 August 1878 at the residence of the bride's parents, Virginia, South Australia. They had ten children — six daughters and four sons — born between 1879 and 1899.
He was a farmer who settled in the Long Plains area. Two of his children married into the Lawrie family: daughter Sophia married Frank Lindsay Lawrie, and son William Henry married Caroline Edna Lawrie (Frank's sister).
He died on 18 February 1926 at Lower Mitcham, South Australia, and was buried at Mitcham General Cemetery.
