Family Stories

Millie, as she was known, was the third child of Francis Charles and Amy Telfer. As a young girl she had a serious accident and had to spend nine months lying flat on a hard bed. Despite this difficult start, she went on to train as a schoolteacher — one of the few Telfer girls of her generation to pursue a profession outside the home. She later married Frederick George Barton and raised a family. (From the Borders to the Bush, pp.131, 174)
