Family Stories
Gladys contributed her own story to the family history. She married Leslie Hedley Pedler — the eldest son of their neighbour at Ungarra — and the young couple moved to Queensland, settling near Dalby on the Darling Downs. There they bought a property and Les worked as a plant operator on road construction while Gladys raised their four children. By 1987 she was living alone in Toowoomba as her children married and moved on, but she kept busy with the Swipe business and church activities. She often wished more of her South Australian relatives would come and visit "this lovely State," saying she had empty beds waiting.
