Joseph Robert Masters was born 12th November 1853 at Angaston, South Australia, the twelfth child of Charles Masters (1809–1866) and Martha Williams Masters (1814–1896).
He farmed at Bendleby, in South Australia's mid-north. He died suddenly there on 13th May 1922 and is buried at Johnburgh.
